Shaakuntalam box office collection Day 2: Samantha Ruth Prabhu film is off to a slow start, mints around Rs 5 crore

While Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s look in the mytho-fantasy drama Shaakuntalam had left fans intrigued, that has not converted into box office numbers. The film, after a disappointing start, has earned only Rs 1.5 crore on day 2, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the total collection to Rs 5 crore for two days.

Shaakuntalam had an overall 20.59% Telugu occupancy on Saturday, and 8.35% in Hindi. Given most states were celebrating New Year on Saturday, the numbers could have been affected. The real test for the film begins on Sunday, and whether audiences turn up to see a woman-led film. Inspired by Kalidasa’s play Abhijnanashakuntalam, it is helmed by Gunasekhar, and also stars Jayadev Mohan, Sachin Khedekar, Prakash Raj, Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Madhoo, Jisshu Sengupta, and Allu Arha in pivotal roles.

While fans had their share of complaints about the film, many lauded the performance of Samantha in it and called it the best of her career. While some claim the VFX and CGI are well-done, some detractors have tweeted that the special effects were subpar and nothing like what the trailer promised.

Dil Raju and Gunasekhar must be appreciated for taking interest in bringing such ancient literature to the screen again. The only letdown is this particular subject is hardly the right material for the current generation. Perhaps the original Mahabharata version of an assertive woman was a better fit.”

Shaakuntalam is about the heartwarming love story between King Dhusyantha and Shakuntala, who face hardships due to the curse of Dhurvasa Muni. Mani Sharma composed the music for the film, which is produced by Gunaa Teamworks and Sri Venkateswara Creations.

vk758501 I too have a dream world of my own. I dream big, far and wide of the world that I live in. I am sad and afraid to live in such a world that is full of sins and negativity. I have a dream world where there is no violence, no hatred, no greed, but just peace, love and harmony. A world where mankind helps each other and is not jealous of each other, where people are not categorized based on their caste and creed, where there is no difference between the rich and poor, but rather considered as equals. A world where there is lots of fun and goodness and where it is safe for every human being who lives in there.
