ChatGPT can’t beat the human mind, says Infosys founder Narayana Murthy

The advent of AI, especially the super intelligent chatbots like ChatGPT, may have cast aspersions on the job prospects for millions. Are we overestimating the potential of AI? Perhaps, the founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy has the best take on the rising prominence of AI in recent times.

In an interview with CNBC, the 76-year-old billionaire asserted that absolutely nothing can beat the human mind, not even the recent AI-powered chatbots. His comments come at a crucial time when ChatGPT continues to turn heads with its astounding abilities such as writing human-like comprehensive essays, offering advice, or answering any kind of question.

Murthy while speaking to the media outlet said that at best ‘ChatGPT is an excellent addition to knowledge generation’. He went on to say that he greatly believes in the theory that the human mind is the most powerful imagination machine. The business tycoon, while highlighting the fact that most people have access to ChatGPT today, said that the human mind is what differentiates one from the other.

He essentially meant that if there was a competition between him and the interviewer, and one of them uses ChatGPT, they will be required to add their own differentiation, smartness, and their ‘own tweaking’. And according to him, this facet will be why the teacher will be more impressed with him than his competitor. The IIT Kanpur alumnus went on to say that ‘lazy guys will get C. Only smart people will get A’. Hence, he was not so much worried about the rise of ChatGPT.

Murthy served as the CEO of Infosys between 1981 and 2022. According to Forbes, as of 2022, he was the 654th richest person in the world. He has been listed among the greatest entrepreneurs of our time by Fortune magazine and also described as the father of the Indian IT sector by Time magazine.

San Francisco-based AI powerhouse, OpenAI, caused a disruption in the tech world after it introduced ChatGPT in November 2022. The AI chatbot powered by the large language model GPT-4 is capable of offering human-like responses. Ever since its launch, developers, and engineers have been working towards innovating more and more use cases of AI chatbots.

ChatGPT became the fastest application to hit 100 million users in the history of the Internet. The chatbot was later integrated into Bing Search, by Microsoft, which has been pumping billions of dollars into the AI company. The launch of ChatGPT has not only triggered employment woes among millions but also set off a race among tech giants to integrate the best of AI technologies into their products and services.

vk758501 I too have a dream world of my own. I dream big, far and wide of the world that I live in. I am sad and afraid to live in such a world that is full of sins and negativity. I have a dream world where there is no violence, no hatred, no greed, but just peace, love and harmony. A world where mankind helps each other and is not jealous of each other, where people are not categorized based on their caste and creed, where there is no difference between the rich and poor, but rather considered as equals. A world where there is lots of fun and goodness and where it is safe for every human being who lives in there.
