WhatsApp has announced a feature that has prompted varied reactions on Twitter. The text messaging platform will now allow users to connect their accounts to multiple devices. The feature will be available for both Android and iOS. People were only able to use one account on different devices like desktops and laptops, but not phones.

Twitter users didn’t waste much time proving their meme-making talent regarding the issue. While some pointed out that the new feature will make relationships a tad bit tough for those who like to stray away from their partners, others commented that the feature may be used by parents to keep a check on their teenage kids.

“Last year, we introduced the ability for users globally to message seamlessly across all their devices, while maintaining the same level of privacy and security. Today, we’re improving our multi-device offering further by introducing the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones,” WhatsApp said in an official statement.

WhatsApp also clarified that each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, and a user’s personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted. “If your primary device is inactive for a long period, we automatically log you out of all companion devices,” it added.
