Films such as The Terminator and A.I. Artificial Intelligence warned about robots taking over the world. The concept of robots looking realistic and showing human feelings was explored in those films. But can you imagine those film plots turning into reality?
Promobot, a Russian company, has built humanoids that look so realistic that it is hard to believe they are robots. However, they come with a hefty price tag of $8 million dollars. Popular Twitter account Tansu Yegen posted a video of the robots that look like something out of the Terminator film franchise.
Alex, a prototype developed by the company, even blinks his eyes and can make facial expressions while talking. Alex seems quite friendly and even a bit flirty by nature. He says in the video, “Hello! Don’t be afraid of the robot. Come closer. I love all people, including you.”
Alex is a hyper-realistic Russian robot, designed and manufactured by Promobot. Alex’s face is made of silicon and modelled after Alexei Yuzhakov, the cofounder of Promobot. He is capable of making 600 different facial expressions which are very similar to humans with the help of 29 motors fitted into his face. And not limited to talking only, Alex can even do some light lifting and exaggerated gestures. With his mechanical arms, he can pick things up and carry a weight of up to 2 kgs. He can even move his fingers to hold a cup or write with a pen. Alex can even see and identify humans because of a camera fitted into his chest. He can in fact be made to look like anybody.

“Next stage of human evolution will be robotics when the planet is uninhabitable. We’ll send this guy out to do the shopping,” commented a user.
“There must be so many more options to make a friendlier looking robot but somebody chose this one,” said another. “I’m good until Alex says. “I’ll be back”,” joked another netizen.
