Disney+ Hotstar to offer free cricket streaming for mobile users
The streaming platform says that the move is aimed at democratising the game of cricket.
After record-breaking viewership in IPL 2023, Disney+ Hotstar has announced that mobile users will be able to watch cricket for free on the platform. The platform will offer free-to-view streaming of the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup tournaments being held later this year, without requiring a subscription.
The streaming platform says that the move is aimed at democratising the game of cricket and reaching out to a wider audience who may not have access to a paid subscription or a television set.
“Making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall eco-system,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar.
Disney+ Hotstar has previously streamed the Asia Cup 2022, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The platform also streamed the recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka, India vs New Zealand, and India vs Australia series.
