Celebs who went missing
The pressures of life in showbiz is harrowing. It is not easy to take the pressures of long practice sessions and erratic shooting schedules. And life is never constant – sometimes, their popularity is high and all seems to be well, and then rejection can follow and their world seems to come crashing down. Many take to alcohol and drugs in a bid to cope – only to find themselves in an abyss of despair. This has caused erratic actions on the part of a few. Read a few of the stories here of some of these celebs.
Ozzy Osbourne
It is said that Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath rocker went missing from his marital home once, allegedly after rumours that he had been found to be cheating on his wife, Sharon. But just hours after a missing Ozzy Osbourne report was published in tabloids came another headline – that he was well and had been located. A few days later, he was spotted with his wife sparking rumours that he had disappeared as a publicity stunt.
Nick Stahl
After reports about the In the Bedroom star going missing after being on drugs, it was reported that he had been found and that the actor had checked into rehab. But the seriousness about coming clean was short-lived. He disappeared again from rehab a few weeks later. This second time, his wife Rose vowed not to hunt for him again. He did turn up again at home, but was later arrested by cops for consuming drugs with some friends at a motel.
Margot Kidder
Back in 1978, Margot Kidder acted as Lois Lane in the phenomenal hit, Superman. Then, she went missing in April 1996, only to be found hiding in the suburban garden of a home in California. She was wearing dirty clothes and had scratch marks all over her body. She was sent off for psychiatric evaluation. She told people that she was suffering from manic depression and sadly passed away in May 2018 at age 69 because of a drug and alcohol overdose.
Kurt Cobain
More than 28 years ago, Kurt Cobain was being treated in a rehab centre for drug usage. He was at the peak of his career but suffered from both mental and physical health issues. He was spotted jumping over the fence of the rehab centre and went missing. His mother filed a missing person report on April 5, 1994, but he was discovered dead in a greenhouse over his own garage. His death supposedly happened due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Many believe that someone close to him killed him, but his death was ruled as a suicide.
Andrew Koenig
The star of Growing Pains went missing one day in February 2010 after he failed to board a flight from Vancouver airport. He was supposed to be going to LA, but he never landed there. His body was later discovered by his parents and friends in a park in Vancouver. He had apparently committed suicide. His father, Walter Koenig, who had acted in Star Trek said his son was suffering from depression and had given up taking medication a year earlier.
Richard Stanley
This is a wild story, but all of it is apparently true. Richard Stanley was hired as the director for the 1996 film, The Island of Dr. Moreau. Within three days of the film shooting in a remote area in Australia, he was fired and was supposed to have been sent back to LA on a flight out of Australia. However, he never reached there, nor ever boarded the flight. He was discovered a month later by the film’s staff and crew. He was living wild in the jungles around the set and was living off wild fruits and coconuts and had a stash of marijuana with him.
