Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh lose Twitter blue ticks
Major Indian movie stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Amitabh Bachchan were among the thousands of celebrities who lost their blue check marks on Twitter this week.
Twitter on Thursday began rolling out its Twitter Blue paid service, which meant that hundreds and thousands of prominent ‘legacy accounts’ that hadn’t subscribed to Twitter Blue ended up losing their blue check marks. In the world of entertainment, some of the biggest names in India, such as superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, were among those who no longer have verified accounts on the social media platform.
In addition to Salman and Shah Rukh, other movie stars who no longer have blue ticks on the platform include Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Ram Charan, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and many more. Actor Prakash Raj, who also lost his verified check mark, wrote in a tweet, “Bye bye #BlueTick …. It was nice having you….my journey ..my conversations..my sharing…will continue with my people … you take care.” Comedian Ricky Gervais tweeted, “My blue tick has gone. I’m not sure if I’m really me or not.”
In a tweet earlier this week, Twitter had announced the rollout of Twitter Blue. According to the Associated Press, Twitter had around 300,000 verified users previously. Most of them were individuals and organisations in the fields of the arts, science, sports and politics. According to the AP, the cost of keeping the blue check mark ranges from $8 for individuals, $1000 per month for organisations, and $50 per month for accounts affiliated with organisations.
